Curriculum Vitae

I have specialised in business law, in particular company and contract law. My particular area of competency also includes credit and insolvency law as well as employment law. These practice areas are part of my daily work.

As an attorney-at-law I assist a row of companies and other commercial actors with a wide range of issues. As a natural part of this work I also help these clients when a need for conflict solving has occurred. I also sit on the boards of several larger companies in order to safeguard their legal interests. The clients with whom I work include banks, insurance companies, industrial concerns and municipalities.

The advantage of having Åland as the base for my work as an attorney is the local business climate, the proximity to both Stockholm and Helsinki, a stimulating work environment and having both forest and water nearby.

Within my daily professional life I try to establish a tolerant and open workplace. The development of new business structures and ways of cooperation is of certain interest to me. My ambition is that DKCO shall be a stimulating, expansive and developed workplace that recognises individualism and critical thinking as advantages for both clients and co-operating partners.

Together with my colleagues, I especially care to meet the clients’ needs and interests.
A client looking for our help shall be able to expect something more, not only juridical help but also practical advice that recognizes the client’s individual needs.

I devote my free time mainly to my family, friends, good food, travels and culture.

Curriculum Vitae

I am born on 15 of April 1968 and I have three older siblings. Equipped with a strong-minded will I knew at an early age what my future profession would be. Already in high-school I was prepared to either become a lawyer or a teacher. I began my law studies at the University of Uppsala in the autumn of 1987 and graduated in February 1992.

During my studies I spent the summers on Åland working at a local bank’s loan department and at the bank´s real estate agency. I had, before I completed my studies, received a vacancy as a legal aid at the legal aid office where I earlier had done an internship.

I worked at the legal aid office for more than two years during what time I was “headhunted” by my current manager. I was offered work at a firm that did not exist at the time of the offer. I did not hesitate but took the chance, a decision I have not regretted. I started working at Juridisk byrå Dan Karlsson Ab on 1 April 1994.

After having worked as lawyers Dan and I decided to apply for membership in the Finnish Bar Association and we were awarded membership in 1998. At work I am mainly responsible for the issues concerning law of property, an area I am especially interested in. Since the firm for the most part has corporate clients, it is also natural that I handle various types of company law issues. I am one of the lawyers that carry out litigation. During the last years I have held lectures about areas that our clients have wanted to get more knowledge about.

I find my work and workplace to be extremely stimulating. We are several lawyers who can critically examine questions and issues that arise. On the other hand, we are not so large so as to have lost our personal commitment. We work not only for our clients, we also work with them.

Alongside my work I have a family, having been married since 1994 and having two sons. We live in a house in the countryside, close to where I myself grew up.

Curriculum Vitae

I was born in Kronoby, Ostrobothnia. During my studies I had summer jobs on Åland, among others at a very nice law firm, which then was called Advokatbyrå Dan Karlsson & Co Ab. After having completed my studies in Sweden and Finland I returned to Åland in order to practice at the District Court of Åland. Åland was beautiful and I noticed quickly that I liked it here. When it on top of that turned out that the nice law firm, which was now called DKCO Advokatbyrå Ab, had a free vacancy for me after my court internship I did not hesitate for long. At first my intention was to stay on Åland for a year or two and then look elsewhere for further challenges. The challenges at DKCO were more than I had expected, and here I still am. Today, I am one of DKCO’s partners and also a member of the Finnish Bar Association since 2007.

On my work desk you find most matters related with company law, administrative law and private law. I also take care of court proceedings. Although I am not especially good with a hammer I think that building and construction law questions are interesting, as well as different kinds of employment law issues. Company law arrangements are also challenging, since they require thinking outside the box.

During my free time I do anything that gives me adrenaline and that challenges me. Boxercise, diving, running, kayaking, adventures and travels to exciting countries.
I spend a lot of time with my family and my friends, and relax by having a great dinner that preferably somebody else prepares. In order to let my thoughts wander I enjoy taking a long run in the forest or along the ocean. I am not afraid of speed or thrills and I seldom say no to challenges, neither on my free time nor in the course of my work.

Curriculum Vitae

I was born and raised in the town of Närpes in Ostrobothnia in Western Finland. After my study years I have lived in Stockholm, but also in Mariehamn during my internship at the Åland Islands District Court. I appreciate both city and country life, but I prefer being close to nature, the sea, the mix of Swedish and Finnish influences, and the genuine Åland life style, to big city life. I’m married and have two children.

I have always been interested in social issues, so law studies specialising in fiscal legislation, economics and business was an obvious choice for me. My view is that lawyers are the engineers of civil structures and that jurisprudence is the technology building and maintaining the legal system which sets up rules of the game ensuring the well-functioning of society. A good lawyer is to be able to translate legal theories into practice.

Like Ostrobothnia, Åland has many entrepreneurs. It is my aim, through my insights in the conditions of entrepreneurship, and through knowledge and experience from both business life and public administration, to solve various legal problems within these sectors. Regardless if a company is large or small, or if it is a private person who is concerned, it is my goal always to provide the best legal advice. I like listening, cooperating, as well as analysing issues, and prefer to solve problems in a pragmatic way with special regard to client perspectives.

In my free time I enjoy running or skiing, depending on the season. I like outdoor and cottage life, as well as spending time with my family and friends.

Curriculum Vitae

I had the pleasure to grow up in Vasa, a small town on the west-coast of Finland. However I also have roots on Järsö, one of the islands of the Åland archipelago.

After I had graduated from upper secondary school and completed my military service in 2003, I decided to look for new challenges. My aim was to study law and get to know a new environment. I found what I was looking for in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Following three years of intensive studies at the University of Gothenburg I returned to Finland for an exchange at the University of Helsinki. The year as an exchange student gave me a possibility to meet people from the rest of Europe and to enhance my English skills. On top of that I participated in the European Law Moot Court competition. This experience has been valuable in many aspects.

In the spring of 2008 I successfully completed my master of laws degree. I have a broad interest in legal issues but my special fields of interest are contract law, maritime and transport law and environmental law. What I like about my work as a lawyer is that I am put in front of new challenges every day; that I have to widen my knowledge and skills continuously; and most of all that I can help my clients.

In my free time I like to relax by listening to some good music (especially Springsteen), reading and doing all kinds of sports. Moreover, Åland offers me great opportunities for kayaking and learning how to sail.

Curriculum Vitae

I grew up in Pörtom and Närpes, in Ostrobothnia, and I have been living on Åland since 1976. I have a degree in economics. After my graduation I spent a year in Germany where I worked in a office that distributed people to international organizations. After my time abroad I worked some years at the district court of Åland and later eight years at a financial institution.

As regards DKCO, I have been part of the firm since the start in January 1994. My responsibility was from the start, as it is now, to take care of the administration and the economy. The work is diverse with continuous challenges in all levels, and I am not exaggerating if I claim that I have never had a dull moment while working. To do the right thing at the right moment and to continuously improve are driving me forward every day.

In my free time I enjoy reading, listening to music, sailing and painting. My family consists of my husband as well as Skrållan, our cat.
